Philosophy Today, there is increasing competition for my student’s attention in the clasroom. As Marc Prensky mentions, my students have grown up being "intimately immersed in computer games, email, the Internet, cell phones and instant messaging" (Prensky 2001). Students are accustomed to the “instantaneity of hypertext, downloaded music, phones in their pockets, a library on their laptops, and beamed messages” (Prensky 2001). I feel it is important to use Web 2.0 and other technology when they can enhance learning. Wikis and Blogs allow students to interact with their peers, families, faculty, and administration. A major feature of integrating technology into the daily curriculum and instruction in my classroom relates to the students ability to contribute meaningful and engaging content to our class websites and multiple web pages. This tool has positioned students as facilitators of information and learning instead of viewers of “lectures, step-by-step logic, and “tell-test” instruction” (Prensky 2001). The digital story, classroom book review wiki, interactive powerpoint, student created podcasts and vodcasts, and social bookmarking examples within this wiki depict different learning activities I have created to reach my students and grab their attenion during the school day.
